arnest Janos Field, Acting Sub-Inspector of Police, then gave

evidence. He said - On the morning of 3rd March I left the Yamati Police Station about 4.30 a.m. to go to the Po Hing theatre. I saw there a large number of Chinese who appeared to be domestic

servants, They broke up into several gangs, I saw no one taking a leading part. At the theatre there was also Sorgeant Dorling

and a number of Chinese detectives a patrol. I watched the mowd

antil about 5,40 8.m., but no report was made to Mr. King in the

interval between 4,30 a.. and 5.40 a.. From E... onwards

the peoplo startod moving off in all parties, twenties, thirties

and fifties at close intervals. There wore in the crowd, I should

Continuing, witness said :- When I got back to the station I gave orders to Sebgeant Dorling to telephone the occurance to the D.S.F. (5.). Sergeant Dorling then got out is mctor-cycle and I went

with him to Sam Shui Po Police Station whele Inspector Pitt and

Sergeant Greig were and all four of us proccoded to the Talpo Road.

At Fr. Malfurray's house we dropped Sorgot Greig as his instruc-

tions wore to watch which way the crowd was proceeding but not to

interfere with them. Then Inspector Fitt, Sergeant Dorling and I

went up the hill to the WaterworŁB, On the way up the hill we

passed all the crowd The crowd extended about 600 or 700 yds.

I did not speak to them as I want through.

Waterworks Inspector Pitt brought his squad of three Indians down

to the road. They were armed with rifles,
